This workshop is a great hands-on investigation into Victorian Newcastle through the events of the Great fire of Newcastle and Gateshead in 1854. Pupils will hear the story of the Great fire based on local accounts of the event and will investigate further using real photographs and documents taken from Tyne & Wear Archives.
Children will use take part in a dramatic re-enacting of the story using our puppet theatre. The session can be used as an alternative study to the Great Fire of London while linking to Victorian Britain topic.
