Preparing for Rocket's arrival

Building work is underway

We’ve started some exciting building work to welcome Robert Stephenson’s iconic steam locomotive Rocket here, as part of the Great Exhibition of the North (22 June to 9 September 2018).

During this time we ask you to use our alternative entrance which is located 50m down the side of the museum, next to the Challenger 2 tank.

If you’re a pushchair or wheelchair user, please ask a member of staff for assistance on arrival.

Certain areas of the museum will be not be accessible to the public, which will be clearly marked. If you need any assistance during your visit, the front of house team will be on hand to help.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause – but we’re sure you’ll agree that this is an unmissable opportunity, to be part of 2018’s biggest cultural event in England.

This exciting exhibit has been made possible thanks to the Science Museum Group and money raised by National Lottery players through the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).
