Preparing for Rocket's departure

Opening times during September

What a fantastic summer we've had here at Discovery Museum as part of Great Exhibition of the North (22 June - 9 September). We welcomed 175,858 visitors through our doors who marvelled at Stephenson's Rocket, took virtual trips on Rocket Reimagined and LNER's Azuma, and were inspired by young inventors and their creations.

Tell us what you thought by completing our online survey, to be entered into a prize draw to win £50 of Discovery Museum shop vouchers.

Work has begun around the exit of Stephenson's Rocket and the deinstall of other related exhibitions.

During this time we ask you to use our alternative entrance which is located 50m down the side of the museum, next to the Challenger 2 tank.

We’ll be closed to the general public at key times. These dates are 18, 19 & 20 September.

We apologise in advance for the disruption and any inconvenience this may cause. We aim to get back to normal service as soon as possible, so please bear with us.
