Workshop Summary

As we are currently unable to offer workshops at the museum, we are offering schools the opportunity to take part in our virtual ships and shipbuilding workshop. 

This live session will last 45 minutes.

KS1 Workshop

  • Workshop warmup-  Use your bodies to explore the different parts of a ship. 
  • 1 minute challengeWhat do we use boats and ships for? How many can you come up with? 
  • Who’s WhoWho do we need to build a ship? Explore the different roles and jobs you would find on a shipyard.
  • Which One?- Can you work out which object is needed?
  • Sounds of a shipyard-  Explore the shipyards through sound clips.
  • Sensory Shipyard-  Using your five senses build up a picture of what life on the shipyards would be like. 

KS2 Workshop

  • Mystery Object- Can you work out what these object are? What are they used for?
  • Sounds of a shipyard-  Explore the shipyards through sound clips.
  • Sensory Shipyard-  Using your five senses build up a picture of what life on the shipyards would be like.
  • Riveting Rush- Team game- How many rivets can your team install correctly? Grab your coloured pencils and sharpeners and lets find out!  

In addition, you will have access to a range of downloadable resources to use in the classroom that build on the workshop learning for 1 month 

Before the session teachers will be offered a ten-minute conversation to discuss the structure of the virtual session, timings of activities as well as other details. Teachers will be provided with a link in advance of the sessions which will provide them with access to the downloadable resources to use before, during and after.
